Food supplement for dogs and cats Taurine is a sulfur amino acid that is mostly free in the body. Taurine is involved in many body processes, but its most important function is to maintain proper heart muscle work, proper development of the central nervous system and retina. Adequate amount of taurine in food ensures proper reproductive functions in cats, as well as the growth and development of kittens. Taurine also supports the digestive processes of dietary fats by forming bile acid salts. This amino acid determines the appropriate oncotic pressure, participates in the mechanism of thermoregulation, has a hypothermic effect. It also increases the secretion of vasopressin and oxytocin in the nerve in the pituitary gland and stimulates GABA ergic receptors. Taurine is necessary not only for cats, but also for cats which breeds of dogs suspected of being taurine deficient (mainly cocker spaniels, for golden retrievers, Labradors, Dobermans). Also extremely important for dog reproduction, and its deficiency is usually found in bitches of large breeds (St. Bernards, English Setters, Newfoundland) receiving an inadequately balanced diet and animals receiving little proteins. In addition, taurine is a very strong antioxidant and protects cells from heavy metals (e.g. cadmium, copper, lead) damage and helps absorb all fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E and K).
